NIA

Nia is an expressive movement practice that uses The Body's Way to achieve physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual fitness and well-being.

Nia is scientifically based in a multidimensional, systemic, body-core centered approach, using intrinsic and extrinsic muscular movement that is multi-dynamic and multi-directional. The craft and technique of Nia involves a variety of movements, speeds, styles, ranges of motion, and energy dynamics. The bio-chemistry of the muscle action is triggered by imagination and by expressing emotion. Movements work with and against gravity and are perceived by the body through the senses, sensation derived from the action of: abduction, adduction, flexion, extension, eversion, inversion, dorsal flexion, plantar flexion, pronation, supination, horizontal flexion, horizontal extension, rotation inward, outward, upward, and downward, elevation, depression, and circumduction. Nia uses a variety of combinations of movements blended with the conscious use of mind and energy.

Nia has spent the last twenty-two years developing a safe holistic fitness program that addresses more than the body. Practicing Nia is a way for you to learn about yourself. You will learn how to integrate your body, mind, emotions, and spirit into everything you do to become more expressive, dynamic, interesting, creative, and somatically-educated. Practicing Nia means you will learn to attract pleasure, become more multidimensional, and move safely and efficiently.
